Dementia Care Certification in Washington

May 2, 2025
A new Washington State senate bill which has been signed into law requires certification for those working in assisted living facilities caring for people with dementia. "This certification is intended to help ensure the health and safety of residents, transparency for families, and appropriate training for staff", according to the Washington State Standard. The certification process will be created, managed, and enforced by the Department of Social and Health Services. Facilities will also be required to provide staff with continuing education. Advocates say the new bill will bring consistency to the care of this population and standardize treatment.
