Stay out of the water at these Seattle beaches
Aug 5, 2024 - Swimmers should stay out of the water at six Seattle-area swimming beaches this weekend due to high bacteria levels, according to data gathered earlier this week from Public Health – Seattle & King County. In Seattle, that advisory impacts East Green Lake Beach, Seward Park and Matthews Beach. Kate Cole, a spokesperson for the Health Department, said swimming in high-bacteria waters may cause gastrointestinal illnesses, skin rashes or eye infections. “So when the bacterial levels are high like this, it just means that there is a higher risk of potential illness from getting in the water,” she said. "And so that risk is higher for people who are older, or for babies or young children, people who are pregnant, people who have underlying medical conditions."
