Caring For Patients with Opioid Use Disorder

Dec 16, 2025
The Washington Health Care Authority (HCA) and SCALA NW have made available tools to help medical professionals become more knowledgeable about medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). ScalaNW is built to help providers improve care for patients who use opioids and other illicit drugs. Liz Wolkin, RN, and Scala NW program manager said "Opioid Use Disorder is a treatable medical condition. We heard directly from providers across the state and designed these tools to help them partner with patients who are ready to start treatment and ultimately save more lives. This project is part of the state’s opioid response strategy and is funded by the state’s opioid settlement funds. It builds on the ScalaNW program, which launched in 2024 to equip emergency room clinicians with resources to prescribe and administer MOUD and connect patients to follow-up care. View the MOUD resources here.
