Naloxone Pilot Program

Jul 23, 2025
The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) announces the launch of a pilot program which supplies naloxone to behavioral health agencies (BHAs) in Washington State. Naloxone rapidly reverses the effects of opioid overdose and restores breathing. The availability of naloxone decreases the risk of death from overdose. The BHAs need upfront funding to purchase an initial supply of naloxone. It will be made available for clients who are diagnosed with opioid use disorder or to clients who may be at risk of an opioid overdose. Once the program is set up, the BHAs will be reimbursed by insurance and can replenish their stock. This pilot is the result of efforts to expand access to opioid reversal medication and listening to feedback from community partners.
